My name is Rob. Back in the day my dad Designed a Tattoo Machine called the Old Timer. Then one day Tattoo Lou stole the design as well as many other Tattoo Artists machine designs. They currently sell them in their Technical Catalog, Funny.
Yes Rob that is so... but there is much much more to the story - so let me elaborate a bit. Back in the Day, when Robs Dad was in diapers... Tattoo Lous was established! Then many years later Robs Dad worked at Tattoo Lous till he decided to go on his own, which was fine - yet he opens up right up the road to try to steal Tattoo Lous business that was built over many hard years work.... which obviously did not work as Tattoo Lous only grew bigger and stronger. Hence - the war between the 2 shops started. Then Robs father designed a Tattoo Machine(in 1997 not so back in the day, remember he was in diapers back in the day), well not exactly - it was a stolen design of a tattoo machine designed by the late Paul Rogers who was famous for Tattoo Machines except Robs Dads was a much cheaper built model that was made from bent steel instead of the beautiful hand made cast Iron machine that Paul Rogers built. So yes one year later in 1998 Tattoo Lous as a payback, copied his Tattoo Machine that was already a copied design, and thanks to this machine it was really the inspiration that started the now world re-nouned International Tattoo Supply and manufacturing company owned by Tattoo Lou, Technical Tattoo Supply. At Technical Tattoo Supply we manufacture all the needs of the Tattoo Parlor. Technical has grown to be the largest Tattoo Supply Company in the world and has hundreds of distributors in the US and many distributors in over 30 countries. Wow! I like how Cliff has "stolen" business. You present quite a conundrum. In your eyes you just took my dads inferior machine and made it better, therefore my dad and all the other shops that have opened over the years around you are nothing more then good healthy competition, right? So lets get this straight. Tattoo lou Stole my fathers tattoo machine and copied it because he dared to compete with him. Thats a good one. Technical Tattoo Supply does supply alot of good equiment from other manufacturers. Unfortunatley all of the equipment that they themselves make (or should I say have made in China) is from stolen ideas, like the Sailor Jerry Bulldog machine you call the Technical Bulldog or the T.T.S Micro Dial and Telephone dial which you stole from Mickey Sharpz. Technicaly makes me laugh, because Technically nothing you have is yours.

As for your info Technical Manufactures most its equipment but works well with its competitors and yes sells some of their inks as they are good also, and Our competitors sell most of our equipment also. You should learn something from this. It don’t hurt work well with others. The Tattoo Industry is very weird like this.... and that’s just the way it is! And no nothing ever changes about the history of Tattoo Lou’s, you are just digging for something to fight about. Sure other items were copied, but that’s just business… Some of the higher quality Tattoo machines like Mikey Sharpz actually took it as a compliment to copy his machine as I knew it was a great machine and would post great sales.... hmmmmm am I the only one who makes replica tattoo machines - no there about 20 other smart companies out there in this industry who copy what works and put their own little twist to it, its all business… and it happens in every industry. Ask your Dad how he used to copy Jack Rudy’s artwork into his portfolio and say he just drew it, now that’s outright plagiarism. Yes competitors open every year… that’s life. Back in the day there were only a few shops in Suffolk, now there are what 35 – but still Tattoo Lous continues to grow as Cliffs shrinks down to 1 shop….. Look for the 2 new Tattoo Lous shops Opening January 1st, 2010 as we expand once again. Lets face it you know Technical has everything you and your artists need right here on Long Island but you don’t let them buy from us or at least in front of you, why – not because of a tattoo machine, yet because you don’t work well with competition and it pisses you off that we are bigger and better then you, maybe you should get some therapy on this. Most other shops around you buy from Technical because they know its convenient, quality and at great prices. I know your artists resent you for making them buy Tattoo Supplies from the 7-11 parking lot like a bunch of drug addicts…. So maybe you should grow up, or maybe because of this you will Ban them from 7-11… Who are you?

Zangbo does all my work in the selden shop and he is the craziest artist. He draws the tattoos right on my arm and it comes out unbelievable everytime. I am talking portraits and all. He did 2 sleeves on me, my back and my chest all in a few months. He said the tattoo should always fit the anatomy, I guess its a chinese wise tale, hehehehehehe! thanks Zangbo.

As for Rob White Boy, your problem is you just missed that error in time and don’t know anything about all the shit that went on - the machine was just one thing that happened, some of the stuff that happened me and your dad could actually write books about.... it was a different world back then, one you will probably never understand. But I do know you now know what its like to have someone leave and open up down the road as it has happened to you, and I heard you really pissed. I even heard you wanted to throw bricks through their windows from very good sources and I am sure you can figure out who they are......

My wife just got her first tattoo at Lous. We went all over Long Island checking places out. Lous was the ONLY place that treated it with the same importance that it was to us. I know tattoo shops do these things all day but to her it was a big deal and I appreciated they way they treated her. It is all healed and looks GREAT. Everyone comments on how nice the color came out. Thanks Sidney. I'll be in for mine soon.

Jay Crutch did a tattoo on my back and I love it. The last tattoo shop I went to the artist told me to get something totally different then what i wanted and I wound up getting something I hate. Jay took the time to listen to what I had to say before tattooing me. He was truely a great guy and very talented. I hope my tattoo makes it on his portfolio on tattoolous.com.
This is not true. I'm not "calling around" looking for a job. I have a job, at Tattoo Lou's. I've been tattooing on Long Island for 21 years and at least 15 of those years have been with Lou. Lou is not only my boss but also a personal friend. He would be the first to know if I were looking. He has hired me back twice already! Proof right there of our friendship.

Lou set me up with Zhang Po (AKA PO PO) to me.. PO tattooed me the first week he came to the United States to work for Lou. I did a 7 hours sitting then an 8 hours sitting to complete my sleeve.. I had a great experience with Po and the other staff at the Selden Shop and the Huntington shop. I recommend any artist or anyone of Lou's shops to get work done. Never heard of 1 bad experience from any one I know getting ink from Tattoo Lou's.

My sunflower and it's raincloud have healed perfectly, and each time I look at it I'm reminded of how much it hurt but how worthwhile the whole process was. it is so real looking, now all the people in my village can see what real food looks like.
you need to open shop here. the village would love it.

Hey I am from brooklyn and I have been going to tattoo lous since I was a little kid. My father used to get tattooed by lou sr. but now he has passed, and I got an in memory of tattoo from lou sr., 3 from lou jr. and 3 from irish jay. I love tattoo lous and bring all my friends there. ReplyDeleteAs for Rob White Boy, your problem is you just missed that error in time and don’t know anything about all the shit that went on - the machine was just one thing that happened, some of the stuff that happened me and your dad could actually write books about.... it was a different world back then, one you will probably never understand. But I do know you now know what its like to have someone leave and open up down the road as it has happened to you, and I heard you really pissed. I even heard you wanted to throw bricks through their windows from very good sources and I am sure you can figure out who they are......

ReplyDeleteMy wife just got her first tattoo at Lous. We went all over Long Island checking places out. Lous was the ONLY place that treated it with the same importance that it was to us. I know tattoo shops do these things all day but to her it was a big deal and I appreciated they way they treated her. It is all healed and looks GREAT. Everyone comments on how nice the color came out. Thanks Sidney. I'll be in for mine soon.

The last tattoo shop I went to the artist told me to get something totally different then what i wanted and I wound up getting something I hate. Jay took the time to listen to what I had to say before tattooing me. He was truely a great guy and very talented. I hope my tattoo makes it on his portfolio on tattoolous.com.

ReplyDeleteThis is not true. I'm not "calling around" looking for a job. I have a job, at Tattoo Lou's. I've been tattooing on Long Island for 21 years and at least 15 of those years have been with Lou. Lou is not only my boss but also a personal friend. He would be the first to know if I were looking. He has hired me back twice already! Proof right there of our friendship.

ReplyDeleteLou set me up with Zhang Po (AKA PO PO) to me.. PO tattooed me the first week he came to the United States to work for Lou. I did a 7 hours sitting then an 8 hours sitting to complete my sleeve.. I had a great experience with Po and the other staff at the Selden Shop and the Huntington shop. I recommend any artist or anyone of Lou's shops to get work done. Never heard of 1 bad experience from any one I know getting ink from Tattoo Lou's.

My sunflower and it's raincloud have healed perfectly, and each time I look at it I'm reminded of how much it hurt but how worthwhile the whole process was. Though it was a new kind of pain to experience, I didn't want to cry until the very end when I saw the perfect finished product. This was a memorial piece for a very difficult loss, and your attention to detail brought my sloppy sketched idea to life. Thanks for doing such an awesome job, and thanks for the closure I have been needing so badly.
